Teen, Three Adults Charged In Attack On Elderly Woman At Jersey Shore Supermarket: Police

Four people were arrested after an elderly woman was "brutally attacked" and had her purse stolen at a Somers Point supermarket, authorities said.

A 15-year-old Egg Harbor Township boy was charged with robbery, aggravated assault, and theft, the Somers Point Police Department said in a news release on Thursday, Oct. 10. Three adults were facing conspiracy charges in the case: 60-year-old Maria DeSantis of Woodbine, 23-year-old Charles Ogelsby Jr. of Atlantic City, and 22-year-old Emily Labaco of Atlantic City.

Officers responded to a "strong-armed robbery" at the ACME Markets on New Road at around 10:50 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3. Investigators said the 83-year-old Somers Point woman was near the grocery store's entrance when she was assaulted from behind and her purse was stolen.

The woman was brought to Shore Medical Center with facial and upper body injuries. She was treated and released.

The suspect was described as a younger man wearing a mask and dark clothing who ran away from the scene towards Bethel Road. Police executed search warrants at homes and a vehicle in Atlantic City and Egg Harbor Township.

The three adults were charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit theft, employing a juvenile to commit a crime, and receiving stolen property. Ogelsby was additionally charged with possession of a defaced firearm.

DeSantis, Ogelsby, and Labaco were held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility, while the teen was held at the Harborfields Detention Facility.
